It’s time to take the director’s seat and take the lead on your own creative project! Learn how to transform ideas from a simple spark of inspiration into a group performance to be truly proud of. It’s time to free your imagination, take the lead and take up space!

This course will teach students how to manage their own devised theatre project whilst building essential leadership skills. All students will have the freedom to tell a devised story using their choice of medium/theatrical technique and will be guided through the development process through to performance. Within the class each student will need to learn how to take the lead, as well as how to be a team player and contribute successfully to the each other’s performances.

They will build up their ability to lead by taking charge of warm-ups and practically directing the other participants. Their larger project will involve directing/instructing other members of the group in their own vision. The course will include warm-up games, team-building exercises, and activities that foster confidence, creativity, and collaboration.

Over the longer term each participant will develop their own creative portfolio that they will be able to show to potential employers to demonstrate their ability to manage creative projects.

They will also get a chance to learn about devising and the act of developing a creative project through practical work - with limited writing. This approach aims to make the project more inclusive for those of different abilities.

We will also look at communication both in the act of directing and leadership but also in the way in which we communicate stories. These can be torn up/told backwards/turned into different genres etc. It is important to guide the participants through an understanding of what directing is and the power of telling stories in different ways or challenging yourself to communicate differently to how you normally would.

One-to-one coaching opportunities are unique to this course - with each leaner able to book some individual time to get help with their projects. This enables each learner to have guided individualised support and to work on their specific key areas for development. This is intended to mimic the type of professional support one would get from a manager in a professional setting.

This class is highly customisable and can be tailored to suit the needs of your learners.
